The school christened after- the philosopher, social reformer and above all the patriotic saint of India – Swami Vivekananda is situated on a hillock located in the remote hamlet of Palemed in the eastern part of the Malappuram District in Kerala.
The school, which had a humble beginning, was founded in the year 1963 as a Lower Primary. It was upgraded as an Upper Primary School in 1967 and as a High School in 1984. It was elevated as a Higher Secondary School with one batch in 1991 and the inauguration of the course was made by the then Industries Minister of Kerala Sri.P K Kunhalikutty.
Today Sree Vivekananda Higher Secondary School is the 2nd largest Higher Secondary School in Kerala with about 1500 students in 13 batches.
It is the flagship of the fleet in the Sree Vivekananda Educational Complex comprising of a dozen of institutions offering diverse courses. The educational complex spreads over an area of 10 hectares and which is set against the backdrop of the scenic beauty of the lush green mountain ranges and forest is the manifestation of the decades long perseverance and dreams solely of a visionary named Sri K R Bhaskaran Pillai ,hailing from the erstwhile Central Travancore.
